It begins with\u00a0<em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Money and Cigarettes,\u00a0<\/em>the guitarist\u2019s eighth solo studio album, which he co-produced with Atlantic Records\u2019 legend Tom Dowd. Released in 1983, it reached the Top 20 in the U.S. and the U.K. and introduced the hit single \u201cI\u2019ve Got A Rock \u2019n\u2019 Roll Heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2036\">\u00a0Clapton worked with Phil Collins to produce his next album,\u00a0<em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Behind the Sun<\/em>, which peaked at #8 in the U.K. The album would earn platinum-certification in the U.S. thanks to hits like \u201cForever Man\u201d and \u201cShe\u2019s Waiting.\u201d Collins returned to co-produce the next album,\u00a0<em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">August<\/em>, as well. Certified gold in the U.S., it featured a trio of Top 10 singles \u2013 \u201cMiss You,\u201d \u201cTearing Us Apart,\u201d (a duet with Tina Turner) and the #1 smash, \u201cIt\u2019s In The Way That You Use It.\u201d Clapton co-wrote the latter with Robbie Robertson and co-produced the track with Dowd. The song was also featured in\u00a0<em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">The Color of Money<\/em>, the 1986 blockbuster film starring Paul Newman and Tom Cruise.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2698\">\u00a0<em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Journeyman,\u00a0<\/em>Clapton\u2019s 1989 follow-up, reached #2 in the U.K. where it was certified platinum. An international sensation, the record was certified platinum in Canada and gold in Argentina, Australia, France, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. The album was certified double platinum in the U.S., scoring #1 hits on the Mainstream Rock charts with \u201cPretending\u201d and the Grammy\u00d2 winning single \u201cBad Love.\u201d The album had two more Top 10 hits in America with \u201cBefore You Accuse Me\u201d (#9) and \u201cNo Alibis\u201d (#4).<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3234\">\u00a0Following the runaway success of his 1992 live album<em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">\u00a0Unplugged<\/em>, Clapton returned in 1994 with\u00a0<em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">From The Cradle<\/em>. A blues covers album, it featured his versions of songs recorded by some of the bluesmen who influenced him, including Robert Johnson, Howlin\u2019 Wolf, Muddy Waters, Freddie King and more. The album was certified triple-platinum in the U.S., where it topped the Billboard 200. It also reached #1 in the U.K., making it his only #1 album in the U.K. to date. In addition,\u00a0<em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">From The Cradle\u00a0<\/em>won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3787\">The final release on VOLUME I is\u00a0<em data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Pilgrim<\/em>, Clapton\u2019s 1998 Grammy Award winning 13<sup data-renderer-mark=\"true\">th<\/sup>\u00a0solo studio album. It reached the Top 10 in more than 20 countries, including the U.S. (#4) and the U.K. (#3).
