The MP 3100 HV is our latest and most sophisticated multi-media player. The basic design philosophy stems from the MP 3000 HV, but the MP 3100 HV is now capable of carrying out the full signal processing of DSD bitstream data in addition to processing PCM data to impeccable standards. This extensive development was necessitated by the machine’s new integral disc mechanism: an SACD drive which is a completely new development, featuring the very latest decoder, and capable of reading files at the highest possible quality.
Technology
Of course, the SACD and CD are becoming increasingly important and are replaced by streamed content, as the huge success of T+A multi-source players with their diverse streaming possibilities show. However, T+A’s audiophile customers clearly want to continue using the CD and SACD because no one throws away their old collection and the possession of a real data carrier still has some charm. The SACD is currently undergoing a renaissance worldwide.
T+A have therefore decided to develop a completely new, modern drive with the latest decoder technology that offers very short access times and excellent error correction. T+A have put a lot of effort into the mechanical design of the drive unit with high-quality mechanics and heavy duty motors to prevent any form of interaction between the moving mechanism of the drive and the rest of the player. For this reason, the drive was mechanically isolated in two stages: firstly, it received a heavy mass housing made of aluminum, which acts as a mass damper. Body sound can not be transferred from the floor to the electronics and the drive; Secondly, this drive unit is decoupled again by a resonance-optimized 3-point bearing from the player housing itself. The drawer is precisely guided by two stainless steel pushbuttons and has a high-quality, special-coated ABS support.

The sound quality of a digital source depends very much on the quality of the digital signal processing and the converter concepts. In both areas T+A have a one-time effort. The data from all digital sources, whether external or internal, is processed by the same digital signal processing with all its directional features, such as T+A DSP oversampling with optimized computation algorithms (for PCM), clock processing with jitter elimination, resynchronization and True 1 Bit conversion for DSD and quadruple conversion for PCM.
Jitter is one of the biggest problems and arises in the source device (especially in computers) and in the data transmission between source and converter. For perfect playback, the data must be freed from jitter, Before they are converted into analogue signals in the DAC. T+A have therefore developed a unique concept for a two-stage clock processing (jitter elimination): in a first stage, the received data are processed and decoded. In this case, a raw clock is first recovered from the received data stream, which is freed from coarse jitter of the source device and the transmission path in a first cleaning stage with the aid of a PLL circuit. The raw clock is now examined by the microprocessor. When it meets certain minimum criteria with regard to frequency and stability, the D/A converters are switched to an internally generated, highly precise master clock with extremely low phase noise. This clock is completely decoupled from the source device and jitter disturbances of the source and the transmission are thus completely eliminated. In cases where the incoming signal does not allow the requirements for switching to the local clock oscillators, a second PLL stage (2nd jitterbug) is used instead of the quartz oscillators. The result of the first jitter bending stage is thereby perfected and the residual jitter remaining after the first stage is again reduced by a factor of four.
Two separate, extremely precisely adjusted quartz oscillators are available for generating the local master clock. There is no longer any interference from the external source devices, even bad computer problems are made harmless! Like the transducers.
