Plinius Koru Phono Preamplifier is a high-performance phono stage designed for serious vinyl playback systems using moving magnet and moving coil cartridges.
In a vinyl system, the phono preamplifier is one of the most critical components in the signal chain. It has to amplify an extremely low-level cartridge signal, apply accurate RIAA equalisation and preserve the musical information before it reaches the preamplifier or integrated amplifier.
Koru is built as a dedicated phono preamplifier for systems where the turntable, tonearm, cartridge and amplification are already carefully chosen. It offers adjustable gain and loading options, allowing more accurate matching with different MM and MC cartridges.
The design uses a two-in-one chassis approach, allowing physical separation of the power supply from the amplification circuitry. The power supply uses a “virtual battery” approach with over 100,000uF of filter capacitance and sophisticated two-stage regulation, helping to provide a clean and stable supply to the audio circuits.
For system integration, Plinius Koru offers RCA unbalanced input and both RCA unbalanced and XLR balanced outputs. This makes it suitable for use with integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers and reference-level systems where balanced connection to the next component is preferred.
Koru provides user-adjustable gain settings of 50dB, 56dB, 60dB and 66dB, as well as adjustable cartridge loading options from 22 ohms to 47k ohms. Input capacitance can also be adjusted, making the phono stage flexible enough for a wide range of cartridge types and system preferences.
