Description

Hegel A200 Integrated Amplifier

The Hegel A200 is a high-performance fully analogue integrated amplifier designed for listeners who prefer to choose their digital sources separately. Instead of incorporating a DAC, network streamer or digital inputs, the A200 concentrates entirely on analogue amplification, offering a powerful and flexible foundation for systems built around dedicated DACs, streamers, CD players, turntables and other analogue sources.

150 Watts per Channel

The A200 delivers 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms from its Class A/B output stage and is designed to remain stable with loudspeaker loads down to 2 ohms. This combination of substantial power and low-impedance stability allows it to drive a wide range of loudspeakers, including models that present more demanding electrical loads.

SoundEngine2 Technology

Hegel’s SoundEngine2 technology monitors the amplifier circuit and suppresses distortion as it is generated. Rather than relying on large amounts of conventional global feedback after distortion has already passed through the amplifier stages, the system is designed to correct errors locally and maintain a clean, controlled signal path.

The result is an amplifier designed to preserve fine detail and dynamic contrasts while remaining composed during complex musical passages and at higher listening levels.

Damping Factor Above 4000

A damping factor greater than 4000 gives the A200 exceptionally strong electrical control over connected loudspeaker drivers. This is particularly relevant in the bass, where precise control of cone movement can contribute to tighter transients, cleaner low-frequency reproduction and improved rhythmic definition.

A Deliberately Fully Analogue Design

The A200 contains no DAC, streaming module or digital inputs. This is a deliberate design choice rather than an omission. It allows listeners to select their preferred external digital components independently and leaves the amplifier focused entirely on analogue signal handling and loudspeaker control.

This approach is particularly suitable for systems already built around a dedicated DAC or network player, as well as systems centred on vinyl, CD or other traditional source components.

Balanced and Unbalanced Analogue Inputs

Two balanced XLR inputs provide connectivity for high-quality balanced source components, while two unbalanced RCA line inputs accommodate conventional analogue sources. The expanded analogue input configuration gives the A200 considerably more flexibility in systems using several dedicated source components.

MM Phono Stage Derived from the Hegel V10

A dedicated Moving Magnet phono input is built directly into the amplifier. Its design is based on the MM section of Hegel’s standalone V10 phono preamplifier and uses hand-matched FET transistor gain stages together with carefully selected operational amplifiers.

This makes the phono input a serious part of the amplifier rather than simply a convenience feature, allowing a turntable equipped with a suitable MM cartridge to be connected directly to the A200.

Flexible Line Outputs

The A200 provides both fixed and variable RCA line outputs. The variable output follows the amplifier’s volume control and can be used with an active subwoofer or external power amplifier, while the fixed output can feed a recorder or another system independently of the listening volume.

Headphone Listening

A dedicated headphone output allows the A200 to be used for private listening without requiring a separate headphone amplifier, extending the functionality of the otherwise deliberately straightforward analogue design.

Home Theatre Integration

Each input can be configured with a fixed volume level, allowing the A200 to integrate easily with an AV receiver or processor. In a combined stereo and home cinema system, the AV processor can therefore control the level of the front left and right channels while the A200 provides the amplification for the main loudspeakers.

Practical Everyday Control

The A200 can learn volume commands from a compatible television remote, helping simplify operation in systems that use an external DAC or television source. Adjustable startup and maximum volume settings help prevent unexpected volume changes, while automatic standby reduces unnecessary power consumption.

The front display can also be configured to remain bright, dim automatically during normal use or switch off completely, making the amplifier equally suitable for everyday listening and darker dedicated listening rooms.

The Classic Analogue Route

The Hegel A200 is designed for listeners who want the amplifier to perform one clearly defined role. By combining powerful Class A/B amplification, extremely high damping factor, balanced analogue connectivity and a high-quality phono stage without adding digital functions, it provides a focused foundation for a separates-based hi-fi system in which the listener remains free to choose every source component independently.
