Overview

At first glance, the TEMPO appears almost delicate, cleverly concealing the sophisticated engineering and intelligent design that make it a true standout transducer in its class. Its slim, tall proportions, gentle backward tilt, and side panels that taper toward the front effectively reduce stray resonances and thus sound-degrading cabinet vibrations, as well as standing waves inside the enclosure. Without countermeasures, such resonances and standing waves can quickly result in an undifferentiated, sometimes even boomy sound. The design of the TEMPOaddresses these issues at their very root.

Two powerful woofers equipped with rigid aluminum diaphragms are positioned directly opposite each other in the sides of the TEMPO. Their arrangement and wiring in the so-called push-push configuration create a symmetrical distribution of forces acting on the cabinet during operation. A complete redesign of the bass chamber makes a lasting contribution to improved impulse response. Instead of conventional damping materials and standard bracing, open-pored ceramic foam is used. Thanks to its extremely large surface area, its damping efficiency is exceptionally high, while a porosity of over 85 percent results in only minimal loss of effective internal volume. The cabinet is extremely rigid yet remains very compact, yielding a level of precision that is unrivaled in this class.

The tweeter and midrange drivers are exclusive Audio Physic developments. Their hybrid basket construction (HHC technology) is unique, combining the damping properties of modern polymers with the stability and torsional rigidity of aluminum die-casting. This effectively prevents sound-degrading interactions between the voice-coil system and the supporting driver basket. The result is a smooth, coherent sound from the fundamental range to the highest frequencies.

The HHCM SL midrange driver of the TEMPO operates without a centering spider and, like the tweeter, features its own dedicated chamber. In addition to its elaborate dual-basket construction, the midrange driver employs a fixed phase plug. Depending on the musical material and playback level, voice-coil systems can heat up significantly, potentially altering certain parameters. The phase plug allows for far more effective ventilation of the voice coil, efficiently dissipating heat while also reducing compression effects behind the diaphragm. In the high-frequency range, the TEMPO likewise features the latest HHCT III driver generation.

The crossover networks have also been revised, with selected components specifically protected against micro-vibrations and the internal wiring carefully optimized. Last but not least, the TEMPO is equipped with solid aluminum outriggers, also used in the AVANTI. They ensure easy handling and optimal coupling to the floor. The result of these measures is clearly audible: significantly higher resolution, improved homogeneity, and strikingly natural musicality.

The TEMPO’s terminal panel is fitted with premium WBT nextgen™ PlasmaProtect™ binding posts. These are connected via special structure-borne sound dampers to a resonance-damped aluminum base plate. Here too, micro-vibrations are deliberately and effectively suppressed.

The TEMPO features a magnetic mounting system for its front grilles.

The elegant outriggers of the TEMPO facilitate setup and guarantee a perfectly stable stance on any surface. Thanks to integrated M8 threads, the TEMPO can easily be upgraded with Audio Physic VCF II Magnetic Plus feet. Their forward-thinking design allows for a perceptibly improved soundstage accuracy and playback authenticity, while also protecting sensitive floors from scratches.
