Malia & Boris Blank – Convergence LP

Malia & Boris Blank – Convergence LP

Convergence is a collaborative album by singer Malia and Swiss musician, composer and producer Boris Blank, best known as one half of Yello. Released in 2014, the album combines Malia’s deep, expressive voice with Blank’s atmospheric electronic production, creating a distinctive blend of jazz, downtempo, electronic music and sophisticated pop.

The album includes Celestial Echo, Embraceable Moon, I Feel It Like You, Touching Ghosts, Claire Cadillac, Raising Venus, Fever, Smouldering Ashes, Magnetic Lies, Tears Run Dry and Turner’s Ship. The combination of Malia’s intimate vocal delivery and Boris Blank’s carefully constructed electronic soundscapes gives the album a rich, cinematic character.

This single LP vinyl edition was released by Boutique on 23 January 2014. Convergence is particularly interesting for listeners who value sophisticated vocal recordings, deep electronic textures, spacious production and music that sits naturally between jazz and electronica.

On a good hi-fi system, Convergence should sound particularly impressive: Malia’s voice remains firmly focused in the centre while Boris Blank’s layered electronic textures create a wide and deep soundstage. The album combines strong low-frequency extension, finely detailed percussion and atmospheric spatial effects, making it an excellent recording for critical listening as well as relaxed late-night playback.
