The Monitor Audio PLW215 II is a formidable reference-grade subwoofer designed to reproduce the deepest bass frequencies with exceptional power, speed and control. Developed as the low-frequency foundation of the Platinum II range, it combines two large 15-inch C-CAM drivers, dedicated amplification and sophisticated digital signal processing in a beautifully finished, acoustically inert cabinet.

Twin 15-Inch C-CAM Drivers

The PLW215 II uses two long-throw 15-inch C-CAM subwoofer drivers mounted in an opposed, vibration-cancelling configuration. The movement of one driver counteracts the mechanical force generated by the other, significantly reducing cabinet vibration and allowing more of the energy to be converted into clean, controlled bass.

Both drivers feature inverted surrounds, triple suspension systems and a linear excursion of up to 42 mm peak to peak. Their rigid, lightweight diaphragms are engineered to remain stable during demanding high-output passages, delivering deep bass with low distortion and excellent transient response.

1400 Watts of Dedicated Amplification

Each driver is powered by its own high-current Class D amplifier channel. The dual-amplifier architecture provides a combined continuous output of 1400 watts, with up to 2000 watts of burst power available for demanding musical peaks and cinematic effects.

The amplifier system is DSP controlled and powered by a sophisticated switch-mode power supply, providing the speed, efficiency and current delivery required to maintain precise control over both large drivers.

Deep and Controlled Low-Frequency Performance

The sealed cabinet and powerful driver system allow the PLW215 II to reproduce frequencies extending down to 16 Hz in room. This enables it to reveal both the audible detail and physical impact of the lowest musical notes, organ fundamentals and cinema sound effects.

Despite its considerable output capability, the PLW215 II is designed for precision rather than exaggerated bass. It integrates naturally with high-performance loudspeakers, adding scale, weight and authority without obscuring detail or tonal balance.

Advanced 24-Bit DSP

A powerful 24-bit DSP platform manages the subwoofer’s response, amplification and protection systems. Four fully configurable user presets can be created and assigned to different inputs or listening situations.

Each preset can include individual settings for low-pass frequency, filter slope, level trim, phase, equalisation, room correction and Night Mode. Factory EQ modes include Flat, Music, Movie and Impact, allowing the PLW215 II to be quickly adapted for different programme material.

Automatic Room Correction

The integrated room correction system uses the supplied calibration microphone to analyse the subwoofer’s behaviour in the listening room. Measurements can be taken from up to six listening positions, after which the DSP applies a set of parametric filters to reduce the influence of problematic room modes.

This helps produce tighter, more even bass throughout the listening area and makes it easier to integrate the subwoofer with both the room and the main loudspeakers.

SubConnect Setup and Control

Advanced configuration is available through Monitor Audio’s SubConnect software for Windows computers. The application provides access to volume, phase, crossover, preset management, equalisation, room correction and other detailed settings.

Settings can be prepared and saved even when the computer is not connected to the subwoofer, making the PLW215 II suitable for both domestic systems and professionally configured installations.

Flexible System Integration

The PLW215 II provides balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA LFE inputs, together with stereo RCA inputs. Individual inputs can be assigned to specific presets, allowing separate optimisation for stereo music and multichannel home cinema use.

Additional control connections include a 12 V trigger input, RS-232 control, an IR repeater output and USB connectivity for SubConnect operation and firmware updates. A dedicated remote control is also supplied for convenient access to essential functions.

Platinum Cabinet Construction

The sealed enclosure is manufactured from 25 mm MDF and reinforced with extensive internal bracing. A separate sealed amplifier compartment helps isolate the electronics from the acoustic pressure generated by the drivers.

The curved cabinet is finished to the exacting standard associated with Monitor Audio’s Platinum range. Available finishes for this product are Piano Black Gloss and Natural Ebony Gloss.
