Bill Evans Trio – Explorations Analogue Productions 45RPM 2LP

Bill Evans Trio – Explorations is one of the defining recordings of the legendary trio featuring pianist Bill Evans, bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian. Originally released in 1961 on Riverside Records, the album captures the extraordinary interaction between three musicians who transformed the role of the jazz piano trio.

Recorded after the group had spent a year developing its almost telepathic interplay, Explorations combines intimate interpretations of standards with compositions that became closely associated with the Bill Evans Trio. Highlights include Israel, Beautiful Love, Nardis, How Deep Is the Ocean? and The Boy Next Door.

This audiophile edition from Analogue Productions presents the album on two 180 g vinyl records cut at 45 RPM. It was mastered by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman at AcousTech Mastering using a fully analogue AAA chain from the original master tapes.

The 45 RPM format provides additional groove space and allows the recording’s subtle dynamics, instrumental texture and spatial information to emerge with exceptional clarity. Evans’ piano, LaFaro’s highly articulate bass lines and Motian’s delicate percussion are presented with remarkable presence and natural tonal balance.
