The Astell&Kern × VOLK Audio STELLA is a flagship in-ear monitor created for listeners seeking exceptional tonal accuracy, resolution and spatial coherence. Developed through a collaboration between Astell&Kern, VOLK Audio and five-time GRAMMY Award-winning mastering engineer Michael Graves, STELLA combines advanced acoustic engineering with carefully selected materials and precision craftsmanship.

Each earpiece incorporates a sophisticated 12-driver quadbrid architecture, bringing together dynamic, balanced armature, planar magnetic and electrostatic transducers. A proprietary six-way crossover network and five precision-tuned sound tubes allow every driver group to operate within its intended frequency range while maintaining consistent phase, pressure and timing throughout the audible spectrum.

12-Driver Quadbrid Architecture

STELLA uses four different transducer technologies to reproduce the full frequency range with authority and control. Each earpiece contains one 9 mm dynamic driver, five balanced armature drivers, two planar magnetic drivers and four electrostatic tweeters.

Rather than relying on a single driver technology to cover an unnaturally wide range, the quadbrid design assigns each transducer type to the frequencies it reproduces most effectively. The result is powerful low-frequency extension, articulate midrange reproduction and an open, highly resolved treble response without sacrificing overall tonal coherence.

VOLK Low-Frequency Hybrid System

The Low-Frequency Hybrid system combines a VOLK M9-R 9 mm dynamic subwoofer with two Sonion balanced armature drivers. These components operate within a specially developed dual-stage chamber engineered to regulate internal pressure, phase and resonance.

The dynamic driver supplies depth, physical impact and low-frequency authority, while the balanced armatures add speed, texture and definition. Operating from approximately 20 to 600 Hz, the system is designed to produce bass that is substantial and extended while remaining controlled and clearly differentiated.

Tri-Armature Midrange

The midrange is handled by a dedicated three-driver balanced armature array. Two drivers operate through the main vocal and instrumental range, while a separate upper-midrange armature extends the response and reinforces harmonic detail.

This arrangement is tuned to preserve natural vocal presence, instrumental body and fine articulation. Careful overlap between the midrange drivers and the high-frequency system helps maintain a seamless transition without drawing attention to the individual transducer groups.

Planar Magnetic and Electrostatic High Frequencies

The High-Frequency Hybrid system combines two VOLK MP-2 planar magnetic drivers with four Sonion electrostatic tweeters. The planar drivers reproduce upper harmonics with speed and precision, while the electrostatic elements extend the response to the highest frequencies with exceptional delicacy and air.

The combined system operates up to 45 kHz, allowing STELLA to reproduce subtle reverberation, spatial information and fine transient detail while preserving tonal stability and composure.

Six-Way Crossover and Five Sound Tubes

A proprietary six-way crossover network manages the interaction between all 12 drivers. Each acoustic path is filtered and time-aligned to protect phase integrity and maintain a coherent stereo image across the complete frequency range.

Five individually tuned sound tubes guide the output of the different driver groups towards the ear canal. Multi-stage internal damping further controls unwanted reflections and resonances inside the enclosure.

Advanced Vent Architecture

STELLA incorporates a carefully engineered venting system within the aluminium chassis and stainless-steel faceplate frame. The vents regulate internal airflow and pressure, stabilising diaphragm movement and helping the drivers maintain a linear response.

This pressure-control system is designed to suppress standing waves and excessive low-frequency bloom while maintaining consistent acoustic performance between the left and right channels.

Precision-Machined Construction

The main chassis is machined from aerospace-grade 6061-T6 aluminium and finished in satin black. Its rigid structure holds the acoustic components in precise alignment and helps minimise enclosure vibration and resonance.

A matching aluminium centre plate features a diamond-cut mirror-finish surface, while a mirror-polished 316 stainless-steel frame surrounds the faceplate. The outer panel is produced from optical-grade sapphire crystal glass with a hardness rating of 9H, combining high rigidity with excellent resistance to scratching.

Premium Hybrid Conductor Cable

The supplied detachable cable was developed as part of STELLA’s complete acoustic system. Its four-core, 23.7 AWG construction combines 5N LCOFC copper, 4N silver and 24K gold conductors in a 12-strand Litz Type 4S geometry.

A reinforced internal core, SoftFlex PVC insulation and a braided nylon outer jacket provide durability while retaining comfortable handling. The cable connects to the earpieces through detachable two-pin connectors and is terminated with a balanced 4.4 mm AEC plug.

Premium Accessories Included

STELLA is supplied with three pairs of silicone ear tips and three pairs of foam ear tips in small, medium and large sizes. Selecting the correct ear tip helps achieve a secure fit, effective passive isolation and consistent low-frequency performance.

A leather carrying case, protective IEM pouch, cable holder and premium balanced cable are also included, providing everything required for safe storage and high-quality portable listening.
