System Of A Down – Mezmerize LP

System Of A Down – Mezmerize LP

Mezmerize is the fourth studio album by American alternative metal band System Of A Down. Originally released in 2005, it forms the first half of the closely connected Mezmerize / Hypnotize project and became one of the band’s most successful and recognisable records.

The album includes Soldier Side – Intro, B.Y.O.B., Revenga, Cigaro, Radio/Video, This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I’m On This Song, Violent Pornography, Question!, Sad Statue, Old School Hollywood and Lost In Hollywood. Among its best-known tracks are B.Y.O.B., Question!, Cigaro and Lost In Hollywood.

Produced by Rick Rubin and Daron Malakian, Mezmerize combines aggressive metal riffs, rapid rhythmic changes, melodic passages and the distinctive vocal interplay of Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian. Its mix of alternative metal, nu metal, progressive elements and politically charged songwriting makes it one of System Of A Down’s defining albums.

This single LP black vinyl reissue was released by American on 11 October 2018. The edition includes a printed inner sleeve with lyrics and credits.

On a good hi-fi system, Mezmerize should sound fast, aggressive and highly dynamic: distorted guitars hit with real weight, bass and drums remain tightly controlled through rapid rhythmic changes, and the contrast between Serj Tankian’s and Daron Malakian’s vocals gives the album its unmistakable dramatic character.
