The iconic red dot has always been synonymous with innovation beyond its limits. Now, it rightfully finds its place at the front of the latest addition to Leica‘s product portfolio: Leica Cine 1. Home cinema experiences in excellent Leica image quality with its first cinema TV. Thanks to its ultra-short-throw lens, the Leica Cine 1 can be integrated into the living room in a space-saving manner close to the wall, while its elegant aluminum body in the authentic Leica look elegantly blends into its surroundings as a classic style icon.
The largest image in the Cine 1 range
Leica calls the Cine 1 a Cinema TV rather than a projector, and at 120 inches this is the biggest screen size the range comes in. Thanks to a 0.25:1 throw ratio, the unit sits roughly 36 cm from the wall to fill that entire 120-inch image — closer than most people expect for a screen this size. It behaves more like a low, wide piece of furniture in front of the wall than a projector mounted somewhere in the room.
Built around one screen size
Unlike a general-purpose projector, this version of the Cine 1 is engineered specifically for a 120-inch image. The Leica Summicron lens, with its four aspherical elements, is fixed rather than a zoom, and calibrated at the factory for this exact size — which is why the sharpness holds up so consistently from the center of the image to the corners. Leica also builds 80 and 100-inch versions with the same design, each with its lens matched the same way to its own screen size.
Color and contrast that hold up in daylight
The triple RGB laser light source is rated for more than 25,000 hours and covers over 100% of the BT.2020 color space, wider than most televisions reach. Combined with Leica’s own Image Optimization processing, the image stays rich even with some ambient light in the room, though at this size — and like any ultra-short throw projector — it still performs best with a dedicated ALR (Ambient Light Rejection) screen rather than a plain wall, especially for daytime viewing. Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG are all supported, so brightness and color adjust scene by scene rather than sitting on one flat picture setting for the whole film.
Sound that’s built in, not bolted on
A 2 x 25-watt Dolby Atmos speaker system is integrated into the housing, aimed at filling the room rather than just the area directly in front of the screen. At 120 inches you’re pushing more visual scale than most living room setups, so if you want audio that matches, an HDMI eARC connection is built in for passing sound through to an external system.
Designed to be looked at, not just looked through
The aluminium housing, perforated speaker grille, automatic dust cover and the small red dot on the front all come from Leica’s camera design language rather than typical projector aesthetics. It’s meant to sit in view on a low console or media unit, not to be tucked away in a cabinet.
Everything already connected
The built-in Google TV interface gives direct access to the main streaming apps without an extra box, and Apple AirPlay 2 covers casting from a phone or laptop. A triple tuner, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI and USB ports, plus a CI+ slot, cover the rest — consoles, external drives, or a set-top box, if you still use one.
