Sonus faber Sonetto VIII Floorstanding Speakers

The Sonus faber Sonetto VIII is the flagship floorstanding loudspeaker from the original generation of the Sonetto collection. Designed and built in Italy, it combines the unmistakable Sonus faber approach to natural materials and elegant cabinet design with a substantial three-way, five-driver acoustic system capable of filling medium and large listening rooms with effortless, full-range sound.

This particular pair is an ex-demo set in Wenge finish and is available as a single pair only. It is the original-generation Sonetto VIII rather than the current Sonetto G2 model, making it an attractive opportunity to acquire one of Sonus faber’s most substantial floorstanding designs at a special ex-demo price.

Three-Way, Five-Driver Architecture

Each Sonetto VIII uses five drivers in a dedicated three-way configuration. High frequencies are reproduced by a 29 mm High Definition DAD™ tweeter with a DKM dome diaphragm. A dedicated 150 mm midrange driver uses a custom diaphragm made from cellulose pulp and other natural fibres, while three 180 mm woofers with lightweight aluminium cones provide the low-frequency foundation.

The crossover divides the system at 270 Hz and 3,000 Hz, allowing each driver section to operate within the frequency range for which it was specifically designed.

DAD™ High-Definition Tweeter

The 29 mm DAD™ — Damped Apex Dome — tweeter is part of Sonus faber’s established high-frequency architecture. Its design controls movement at the apex of the soft dome in order to improve linearity and extend high-frequency response while retaining the smooth tonal character associated with the brand.

Natural-Fibre Midrange

The dedicated 150 mm midrange driver uses a custom diaphragm based on cellulose pulp and other natural fibres. This material philosophy is central to Sonus faber’s approach to midrange reproduction, where natural timbre and expressive vocal and instrumental texture take priority over an artificially analytical presentation.

Three 180 mm Aluminium Woofers

Low frequencies are reproduced by three 180 mm woofers. Their aluminium diaphragms combine low moving mass with high rigidity, allowing the Sonetto VIII to deliver fast, controlled bass while providing the scale expected from the largest floorstanding model in the original Sonetto series.

The system reaches down to 36 Hz, giving the Sonetto VIII sufficient low-frequency extension for full-range music reproduction in many systems without requiring a subwoofer.

Down-Firing Reflex Design

The Sonetto VIII uses a vented enclosure with the reflex port positioned at the base of the cabinet. This downward-firing arrangement keeps the visual design clean and makes room placement more forgiving than a conventional rear-ported loudspeaker, particularly when the speakers need to be positioned closer to the rear wall.

Signature Lute-Shaped Cabinet

The cabinet follows Sonus faber’s characteristic lute-inspired profile. The curved side panels minimise parallel internal surfaces and help control standing waves and cabinet resonances, while giving the loudspeaker the elegant proportions closely associated with Sonus faber’s Italian design language.

Wenge Wood and Leather

This pair is finished in Wenge wood and features the characteristic leather-covered upper surface used throughout the original Sonetto collection. The combination of real wood, leather and aluminium details gives the Sonetto VIII a distinctly luxurious appearance while remaining recognisably Sonus faber.

Easy to Partner Despite Its Size

With a sensitivity of 90 dB SPL and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, the Sonetto VIII can be partnered with a wide range of quality amplifiers. Sonus faber recommends amplifier power between 50 and 300 watts per channel without clipping, leaving considerable freedom when building or upgrading a system around these speakers.
